Eligibility for Canada Express Entry Program

Canada Express entry program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. So, skilled workers are welcomed by Canada Express Entry Program to contribute to Canada’s economy.

There are three different types of economic immigration programs. Candidates who meet eligibility criteria submit an online profile known as an Expression of interest (EOI), under one of 3 federal Canada immigration programs or a participating provincial immigration program, to the Express Entry Pool. You must use Express Entry to apply for:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program
  3. Canadian Experience Class

Age

Applicants aged between 17 – 49 years are considered fit in this segment.

The highest level of education

  • Masters degree / PhD + 17 full years study
  • 2 or more bachelor degrees + 15 full years study
  • 3-year diploma, apprenticeship/trade certificate + 15 full years study
  • Bachelor degree + 14 full years study
  • 1-year diploma, apprenticeship/trade certificate + 14 full years study
  • 1-year bachelor degree + 13 full years study
  • 1-year diploma, apprenticeship/trade certificate + 13 full years study
  • 1-year diploma, apprenticeship/trade certificate + 12 full years study
  • High school certificate

Language skills

According to applicants English & French language skills points are awarded on

  • Speaking
  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing

The test (IELTS/ TEF) given by applicants must meet minimum language levels of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) and that its score must not be over 2 years old while applying for PR.

Canadian work experience

Applicants must have a minimum of 1 full year of continuous work time (or an equal amount in part-time) within the last 10 years that meet the following level of the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).

  • O (managerial occupations)
  • A (professional occupations)
  • B (technical occupations and skilled trades)

The more work experience, essential occupational duties/description applicants are able to list in their application, the higher the points will be awarded to have a good outcome.

Canadian Express Entry Points system

The eligibility requirement for the Express Entry is 67 points out of 100. You will need to score at least 67 points under various eligibility criteria to apply for your PR visa. Express Entry profile will get points based on:

  • education level;
  • abilities in English and/or French (Canada’s 2 official languages);
  • work experience and skills;
  • age;
  • If a candidate has a job offer in Canada; and
  • candidate spouse’s education, language abilities, and work experience.
